For many Americans outside the nation’s capital, DC is dominated by politics.
And yet, people who visit DC quickly learn that it has more to offer than think tanks and policy debates.
If you’re exploring Washington DC neighborhoods, you’ll discover what every nook and cranny can offer.
There are so many neighborhoods in DC worth exploring. Here are just a few of our favorites.
Cleveland Park
Cleveland Park can often feel like a village rather than a neighboorhood inside the nation’s capital.
The vibrant green spaces, boutique shops, and charming cafes are around every corner of the neighborhood.
Cleveland Park is a family-friendly paradise. You won’t find the cool and edgy vibe of other neighborhoods here.
Instead, you can calmly wander around the tree-lined streets. Imagine your life in one of the many Queen Anne homes you walk past.
Bloomingdale
Bloomingdale achieves the herculean task of embracing the modern while preserving its charm.
This is a small and strongly-knitted community. But, that doesn’t mean they don’t know how to enjoy themselves.
During the day, you can head to the Common Good City Farm, an innovative urban farming project. You can pick up organic and fresh ingredients at the farmers market, where locals jostle for the best produce.
During the evening, the Bloomingdale has a thriving whiskey bar called The Boundary Stone. Here you can enjoy the finest American whiskeys.
Dupont Circle
Famous for the traffic circle and water fountain, Dupont Circle has a reputation for international cuisine in DC.
You can sample delicious Afgan cuisine at Food Corner Kabob House or delicate fine dining Japanese style at Sushi Taro.
Culture vultures can also feast on The Phillips Collection, America’s first modern art gallery.
After walking around the neighborhood, rest your tired legs at Kramerbooks & Afterwords Cafe where you can pick up a book and grab a coffee.
Georgetown
This neighborhood is named after George Washington himself. The cobbled streets of Georgetown make you feel like you’ve traveled back in time.
The boutique shops and funky art shows make Georgetown one of the most pleasant neighborhoods in DC.
The neighborhood is also home to Georgetown University. You can sometimes spot students hanging at the C&O Canal, or chatting over coffee in a cafe.
If you want something sweet, visit the Georgetown Cupcake to indulge in freshly baked delights.
H Street NE
Having previously been a relatively deprived neighborhood, H Street NE is the up and coming kid.
This is where you’ll find millennial hipsters and a growing number of young families. If you want funky dive bars or trendy coffee shops, this is the neighborhood for you.
For budget foodies, H Street NE has something for everyone. Lebanese fast food or Japanese ramen?
If they arrive at the right time of year, you can experience the many summer festivals that take place in the neighborhood as well.
