Remembering the Dandi March on India’s 69th Independence Day

Google today commemorated India’s 69th Independence Day with Doodle on Mahatma Gandhi’s Dandi March which had ignited a large scale act of civil disobedience against the British rule in the nation.

The Doodle shows a picture of Mahatma Gandhi leading a group of five other people. The mousehover content peruses,” Remembering the Dandi March on India 69th Independence Day.”

The tech giant has devoted this memorable historic march with a doodle showing Gandhi in his khadi white clothes leading the way with his contingent. The women in the doodle are traditionally dressed in a saree, whereas the men are wearing a white topi and a kurta.

Gandhi began the Dandi March on March 12, 1930 to challenge against the tax resistance and the British salt monopoly in colonial India.

He started the walk from Sabarmati Ashram near Ahmedabad to the coastal village of Dandi in Gujarat and what resulted was they covered 390 km in 24-days walk to Dandi, where numerous Indians joined along the way.

The Dandi March had ignited protest all over India against British salt laws, and was one of the first campaign to have extensive number of Indians taking an interest.

Mahatma Gandhi overstepped the salt law on 6 April, 1930 sparking a large scale act of civil disobedience against the British rule in the nation. Thousands of people joined Gandhi in his march which had a noteworthy impact on the independence movement.
