How to Stay Healthy on Vacation

We all go on vacation to relax, unwind and leave the stresses of everyday life behind us. We also tend to overindulge a little while we’re away, and we can often return home feeling a little worse for wear. However, no matter where you’re going, and whether you’re staying in one of the many nassau house rentals available or you’re camping in the middle of nowhere you can stay healthy, here’s how:

How to Stay Healthy on Vacation

Drink Plenty of Water

It goes without saying that you should drink plenty of water when you’re on vacation, especially if you’re going somewhere very hot. It’s all too easy to become dehydrated, and it’s all too easy to feel ill simply because you’ve not had enough fluids. One of the best things you can do when you’re in a hot country is to drink plenty of water. Have a bottle of water with you at all times so you can sip it when you feel the need. The trick here is to sip the water slowly so that your body absorbs it if you gulp it down it will go right through you.

If you’re not a fan of drinking water on its own, opt for something you do like such as flavoured water or iced tea. Although some alcoholic drinks may quench your thirst, some of them can be quite dehydrating, so you may want to cut down on the booze when the day is a particularly hot one.

Don’t go Food-Crazy

Many of us love to overindulge on food when we’re on vacation, however, it can result in those pounds being piled on. Here’s where you need to be careful and have a bit of restraint. Although there is nothing wrong with enjoying a few elaborate meals, try to eat sensibly for the most part so that when you do consume a large meal you’re not left feeling guilty and bloated.

If you must overindulge, why not go for a walk afterwards and burn some of those calories off? No matter where you’re staying there is bound to be some places to walk to. Take a stroll through the town or down on the beach, and walk off that heavy meal. Trust me, you’ll feel better for it.

Cover Up When the Sun’s Shining

Covering up when the sun is shining is perhaps one of the best ways you can take care of yourself. Yes, the sun can feel really nice on your skin, but it can also damage it. Be sensible, cover up when the sun is at its hottest, and you’re less likely to suffer from heat stroke. Wear a hat and sunglasses, and cover your shoulders up. Don’t forget to apply sun cream before you sunbathe or go for a swim, and don’t forget to re-apply it every hour or two.  Not only will you feel better for it, but your skin won’t age quite so much and you’ll reduce your risk of skin cancer.

Get Plenty of Sleep

While getting plenty of sleep may not be one of your top priorities when you’re on vacation, feeling tired because you’ve not had enough sleep can dampen the spirits. Try to avoid having too many late nights so you can catch up on that much-needed sleep, and have enough energy the next day to enjoy yourself.

If you can, have a nap in the afternoon when the sun is at its hottest. Not only will you feel better for it, but it can help to break the day up a little bit too. A quick nap can also help to recharge your batteries, giving you a bit more energy for the night ahead.

Take Some Remedies with you

If you’re visiting a hot destination you may want to take some aftersun with you so your skin has the chance to heal. You may also want to invest in some insect spray so you can avoid being bitten by insects you don’t tend to see at home. Lastly, don’t forget to invest in some medication that can help to settle your stomach should you eat something that disagrees with you.

Try to Relax

While vacations can be quite relaxing, they can also be pretty stressful too, especially if you’re travelling with young children. Try to relax as often as you can while having your vacation at Hilton Head Island vacation rentals, and give yourself time to unwind. Although there may be many places you would like to go, and many wonderful tourist attractions you would like to see, you also need to have time to yourself. Plan your week carefully, so you have plenty of time to sit by the pool or lounge on the beach. Rushing here and there will simply add to the stress, so take your time, try to relax, and chances are you’ll enjoy your vacation a lot more.

As you can see, it is possible for you to stay healthy on vacation. Simply drink plenty of water, watch what you eat, cover up when the sun is at its hottest, and make sure you get plenty of sleep.  Take some remedies on vacation with you, or buy them from one of the local shops so you have everything you need. Lastly, try to relax, you are on vacation after all. Use all of these tips to help you stay healthy on vacation so you enjoy it a lot more and you have some great memories to take home with you.
